Our goal is to bring craft to snacking – so we pay attention to the details. That’s why our cocoa is sustainably sourced through programs that support farmers and their communities. We believe sustainable practices make for better lives and better chocolate. In particular, given the fact that we are a Certified Women Owned Business ourselves, we feel that supporting women cocoa farmers is our best way to pay it forward. We plan to support one group of women in 2017 and grow our support every year.
Q: What does Sustainably Sourced Cocoa mean?
A: Cocoa that is verified to have been sourced from farms participating in sustainable cocoa practices like paying a cash premium to farmers, productivity training, safe labor practices, and community education programs.
Q: How do we source sustainable cocoa?
A: Edward Marc Brands pays a premium on the cocoa we buy, part of which will be paid directly to farmers and farmer groups, increasing their income and enabling them to invest in their farms and communities. The rest will be used to further empower cocoa farmers by supporting the implementation of cocoa sustainability activities. We do this through the Cocoa Horizons Foundation.
Q: What is the Cocoa Horizons Foundation?
A: The Cocoa Horizons Foundation is a non-profit organization supervised by the Swiss Federal Foundation Supervisory Authority. Its mission is to improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and their communities through the promotion of sustainable, entrepreneurial farming, improved productivity, and community development. Q: Why did we choose Cocoa Horizons as its best-fit sustainable sourcing partner?
A: It has the smallest portion of its costs going into administrative overhead or supply chain operations that the farmers never see and force prices up for consumers.
